Traffic Violations

In this section, Traffic Violations refers to those driving offenses that are not Criminal charges such as a Reckless Driving or an Operating While Intoxicated (OWI). In fact, it would even be improper to refer to a Reckless Driving or an Operating While Intoxicated (OWI/DUI/DWI) as traffic offenses.

Traffic offenses such as Speeding and Disregarding a Stop Sign can cause major problems with a person's drivers license. Such offenses can cause a person to become an Habitual Traffic Violator (an lose his or her license for 5-10 years); can cause a person to be required to take a defensive driving course, and can cause a person to be suspended indefinitely.

A person can be suspended indefinitely if he or she forgets or fails to appear for or to pay for a ticket. The Court will usually suspend a person's license if they fail to do one of those two things. That person is then at risk for being arrested for driving while suspended, thus causing another suspension. It can become what seems to be, an endless cycle.

Thus, drivers should always consider talking to a trained traffic lawyer about these offenses. Often, a person can be advised to simply accept the deferral program that is being offered them by the Court or Government. In addition, a properly trained attorney can help that person enter into a deferral program, even if it has not been offered to them previously.

Most importantly, a driver should not ever just admit to a ticket without talking to an attorney first. One phone call could save a long and costly suspension.
