There are certain career fields where coming to work under the influence
or getting a DUI charge while employed can have a negative impact, regardless
of the outcome of any criminal charges. Recently in Indiana, a police
officer was suspected of being under the influence while on the job. That
officer has since pleaded guilty to
drunk driving charges.
The incident took place as the man showed up to work, and supervisors suspected
there may have been an issue. Apparently, there was a nearly empty bottle
of rum in the trunk of the patrol car. The police officer was also found
to have a blood alcohol content of .21 percent, close to three times the
legal limit.
The officer was sentenced to 60 days in jail. He was also ordered to serve
probation for a period of six months. The man was suspended from work,
and termination proceedings are pending.
In a case such as this, there may be blood tests, breath tests and/or field
sobriety test results. Personal observations of the arresting officers
may be relevant, along with other evidence, and lead to a person being
charged with drunk driving. Regardless of the tests administered or the
claimed results, anyone in Indiana who is arrested and charged with drunk
driving will likely benefit from speaking to an attorney who can examine
the test results and related evidence and fully represent the interests
of the accused individual throughout the criminal proceedings. Defense
counsel will focus on protecting all legal rights while fighting for a
favorable conclusion.
