Indiana man arrested for drunk driving after hitting semi truck

An Indiana man was involved in a recent accident in which he struck a semi truck that was parked on the side of Interstate 70 after it experienced a brake fire. In the accident, the man seriously damaged the vehicle he was driving. In addition to the property damage, he also now faces a drunk driving charge as a result of the accident.

The incident took place in the early morning hours in early December. A man in a minivan slammed into a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the side of the highway. According to the driver of the truck, there was fear that the vehicle and driver were trapped under the truck. Another motorist called police to report a heavily damaged minivan driving down the road away from the scene of the accident.

According to reports, the 28-year-old driver of the minivan drove away from the scene of the accident for five miles before exiting Interstate 70. He then got out of the vehicle, reportedly to survey the damage. Police investigated the incident and arrested the man for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Luckily, no one was hurt in this incident; however, the man who struck the tractor-trailer was charged with drunk driving. As Indiana has stiff penalties for those who are convicted of drunk driving, the man may choose to obtain legal representation in an attempt to defend himself against the charge he now faces. While there are various defense strategies used to fight DUI charges, most are aimed at having the charge reduced or dismissed.
